About Editor Julia Day

Julia Day became an editor after years of informally editing writing for her family, friends, and colleagues. In 2015, Julia earned a certificate in editing from the Professional and Continuing Education program at the University of Washington. She specializes in scholarly writing in the humanities, arts, and social sciences.

Julia’s background as a scholar informs her editorial approach. She received her PhD in ethnomusicology in 2017. Ethnomusicology, the study of how and why people interact with music, requires diligent listening and careful observation. These are traits that Julia brings to each manuscript that she edits. She listens to preserve the author’s voice as the expert across all suggested edits. She also identifies stylistic inconsistencies, grammatical errors, or holes in the argument in order to strengthen the author’s writing. Julia is a nerd for the nitty-gritty details of citation and bibliographic references. She keeps up with the current editions of the Chicago, APA, and MLA style guides.

Julia is a member of the Northwest Editors Guild and the Editorial Freelancers Association.
